Naloxone Demo Day, Cork City
What is Naloxone?
Naloxone is a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. It binds to opioid receptors in the brain, effectively blocking the effects of opioids and restoring normal breathing in a person who has overdosed. Often known by its brand name, Narcan, Naloxone is a life-saving drug that is safe and easy to administer, making it an essential tool in combating the opioid epidemic.
Reducing Stigma: By equipping more people with Naloxone and the knowledge of how to use it, we can reduce the stigma associated with substance use disorders. It reinforces the message that every life is valuable and worth saving.
When more community members are trained to use Naloxone, we create a safer and more supportive environment. Everyone, from parents to teachers to first responders, can contribute to making our community more resilient in the face of the opioid crisis.
